CHOOSING ADOPTION
A Loving and Empowering Way Forward
hope is real
Adoption in South Australia today is far more compassionate and empowering than many people realise. It’s a deeply loving and intentional way to give your baby a future, even if you’re not ready to parent right now.
Some women choose adoption because:
- They’re not ready to be a parent, but don’t want an abortion
- They lack the support system needed to raise a child
- They want to focus on school, university, or a career
- They feel too young for parenting responsibilities
What Modern Adoption Looks Like
The adoption process in South Australia is designed to protect and empower birth parents. You can:
- Choose the adoptive family for your child
- Decide how involved you want to be (from open adoption with updates to remaining anonymous)
- Change your mind any time before finalisation
- Participate in mandatory counselling to ensure adoption is right for you
Adoption is never finalised until at least 28 days after birth, and your baby is cared for by trained foster parents during that time. This gradual transition is designed to be respectful of your needs and your baby’s well-being.
At Birthline, we don’t handle adoptions directly, but we offer adoption referrals and connect you with licensed adoption agencies and social workers who will guide you through each step with care.
Adoption is an alternative to abortion that creates a legacy of love and hope – both for your child and for the family who welcomes them.
Healing After Past Abortion
Some women exploring adoption are also processing a past abortion. If you’re feeling grief, regret, or emotional conflict, you’re not alone – and what you’re feeling is valid.
We offer compassionate post-abortion recovery counselling to help you find peace, freedom, and healing. Many women find that talking through their story in a safe, supportive space brings clarity and renewed confidence for the future.
