Am I ready to be a parent?

Parenting is a lifelong journey filled with the joys and difficulties of raising a child. If you are facing an unexpected pregnancy, you may be feeling as though you are unprepared for parenting for any of the following reasons:

  • You aren’t sure how you would financially support a child
  • You don’t have the proper emotional support system in place
  • You aren’t sure how you could continue school or work with a child
  • You don’t know how you would tell your family or friends
  • You’re feeling upset, angry, afraid or all alone

We want to assure you that you are not alone, and that there are solutions to each of these questions. If parenting is an option you want to consider, it is not out of reach for you. Birthline offers a number of resources to help you succeed in the decision-making and parenting processes.

Counselling

No matter where you’re located in Australia, you can call our 24-hour hotline for no-cost counselling over the phone. Every conversation is completely confidential and you don’t even have to share your name if you do not wish to. We also offer face to face  for pregnancy counselling at our physical centre in South Australia. All of our counselling services are no-cost, confidential, and provided by trained staff members who deeply care for your well-being.

Material Assistance

Birthline also offers material assistance to those who choose to parent. We receive donations of pre-loved or new baby items such as cots, prams, car seats, change tables, baby clothing and much more from the community. We pass these items on completely free of charge to those who may need them.

You have top priority for material assistance following parenting counselling early in pregnancy.

Birthline is here to remind you that there is hope. If you are considering parenting for your unexpected pregnancy, we can offer you with no-cost and confidential services like counselling and material assistance to set you up for success.
